Director's Message

“I would like to welcome you to the online home of the Whitney Music Department. At Whitney, we offer many opportunities for students to learn music and make memorable music and life experiences while doing so. As a music educator, I strongly believe that all students benefit from and should receive music education. I believe that the goal of a successful high school music program is to provide students the skills, knowledge, and experiences that allow them to engage in any musical activity that interests them. Becoming proficient at playing an instrument or singing, acquiring a base of musical knowledge, and having experiences to grow as a musician are important. These experiences include playing and performing in ensembles, attending professional concerts, workshops, field trips to compete, and participating in school and community events.

One of my goals is for the ensembles of Whitney High School to be a contributing cultural force in both the school and the Rocklin communities. Music has been shown to have cognitive benefits such as improved focus and brain health, academic benefits, and boosts emotional intelligence skills such as persistence, resilience, collaboration, and empathy. Music also enriches people’s lives by providing inspiration, bringing joy, conveying emotion, and enhancing creativity.

Music is a collaborative activity involving both performers and listeners. Please contact me with any questions, inquiries about our programs, suggestions, or concerns. I welcome your participation and appreciate your support!”
